An original WWII German Luftwaffe Officer’s Summer Visor Cap (Sommer-Schirmmütze), complete with its removable white cotton summer cover. This elegant visor cap represents the standard warm-weather headgear worn by commissioned Luftwaffe officers during the Second World War and is a highly desirable piece for collectors of German military headgear.
The cap features a finely woven textured white cotton removable cover fitted over the standard blue-grey visor cap body, allowing officers to adapt their headwear for summer service while protecting the underlying cap from sunlight and dust. The front is adorned with the correct hand-embroidered aluminium bullion Luftwaffe eagle positioned above an embroidered officer’s national cockade and oakleaf wreath, all mounted on a black mohair centre band.
A silver aluminium officer’s chin cord is secured by pebbled side buttons, while the glossy black vulcanfibre visor remains in very good condition, retaining an attractive period finish. The interior is fitted with a leather sweatband and retains its original celluloid crown diamond bearing the “Deutsches Erzeugnis” manufacturer’s marking, a desirable period feature found on quality wartime-produced caps.
The removable summer cover displays light age-related toning consistent with wartime service and careful storage, adding to its originality and character. Overall, the cap presents as an excellent untouched example of a genuine Luftwaffe officer’s summer visor cap.
