An excellent original Kriegsmarine Officer’s Dagger (Kriegsmarinedolch) manufactured by the renowned Carl Eickhorn of Solingen, one of Germany’s most respected edged weapon makers during the Third Reich period. This example displays the classic elegance of the German Navy officer’s dress dagger and remains in exceptionally well-preserved condition, retaining its original gilt finish, ivory-coloured grip, matching scabbard and silver officer’s portepee.
€ 2.000
This dagger features the desirable Carl Eickhorn squirrel trademark clearly struck on the ricasso, confirming manufacture by one of the premier Solingen producers. The reverse ricasso and upper scabbard throat are both matching numbered N766, indicating that the blade and scabbard have remained together since manufacture—an uncommon and highly desirable feature for serious collectors.
The beautifully gilded crossguard is decorated with finely detailed fouled anchors, the traditional emblem of the German Navy, while the pommel is formed as the distinctive Kriegsmarine eagle grasping a swastika in its talons. Both fittings retain a pleasing aged gilt patina with crisp detail throughout.
The grip is constructed from the correct ivory-coloured celluloid with deep spiral grooves bound by twisted gilt wire. The grip remains free from cracks or significant damage and exhibits an attractive period appearance.
The blade is bright and exceptionally clean, showing an excellent mirror finish with sharply defined twin fullers. The Carl Eickhorn trademark remains deeply struck and easily visible. The blade displays only the lightest signs of age, with no evidence of sharpening, making it an excellent collector-grade example.
The lightning-bolt engraved brass scabbard retains much of its original fire-gilt finish and features the correct suspension bands and carrying rings. The matching serial number N766 is neatly stamped at the throat, further enhancing the originality and desirability of this dagger.
Completing the set is the original silver and aluminium Kriegsmarine officer’s portepee, correctly tied to the hilt. The portepee displays honest age and remains complete with its woven acorn, adding significantly to both the visual appeal and collector value of the piece.
Matching-numbered Kriegsmarine daggers by Carl Eickhorn are becoming increasingly difficult to locate, particularly examples retaining their original portepee and showing this level of preservation. This is a fine investment-grade piece suitable for the advanced collector of German naval edged weapons.
