An original German Army 4 Year Long Service Medal (Wehrmacht-Dienstauszeichnung für 4 Jahre), awarded to members of the Heer (German Army) in recognition of four years of faithful and honourable military service. Instituted on 16 March 1936, the Wehrmacht Long Service Awards replaced earlier Imperial service decorations and were presented to personnel who completed the required period of exemplary service. The 4 Year Medal represents the entry-level award in this prestigious series.
The medal features the German national eagle clutching a swastika on the obverse, surrounded by the inscription “Treue Dienste in der Wehrmacht” (“Faithful Service in the Armed Forces”). The reverse displays the numeral “4” within an oak leaf wreath, denoting four years of qualifying military service. The medal is suspended from its correct blue ribbon, the recognised ribbon colour for Army long service awards.
This example remains in very good original condition, retaining crisp detail to both sides with an attractive aged finish. The original blue ribbon is present and displays expected signs of age and storage. An excellent example of an increasingly desirable Wehrmacht service award, ideal for collectors specialising in German Army decorations or long service medals.

The German Army 4 Year Long Service Medal represents the foundation of the Wehrmacht long service award series introduced in 1936. These medals commemorate faithful military service during the pre-war and early wartime years and remain popular with collectors due to their historical significance, classic design and affordability. Original examples with their correct ribbon are becoming increasingly sought after as genuine pieces continue to disappear into established collections.
