This Original TeNo Membership Badge is an outstanding example of the insignia awarded to members of the Technische Nothilfe (TeNo). Wilhelm Föhner of Pforzheim produced this attractive badge, which still retains its original gilt finish, colourful enamel and crisp detail.
The design features the national eagle above a cogwheel, the enduring symbol of Germany’s technical emergency service. At the centre sits the distinctive black enamel TeNo emblem on a red and white background. Below, the scroll marked 1926 commemorates the organisation’s official foundation, while detailed oak leaves complete the lower section of the badge.
Furthermore, the reverse confirms its authenticity. It carries the correct GES. GESCH. (Gesetzlich Geschützt) marking together with the desirable Wilhelm Föhner, Pforzheim maker mark. The badge also bears the official membership number 3929. It still retains its original hinge, pin and catch.
The Technische Nothilfe (TeNo) began in 1920 to protect Germany’s essential public services during strikes and national emergencies. However, the organisation officially adopted 1926 as its commemorative foundation date, which appears on this membership badge.
During the 1930s, TeNo expanded rapidly. It became an important part of Germany’s civil defence network. Later, during the Second World War, its members repaired damaged bridges, railways, power stations, water supplies and industrial facilities. As a result, they played a vital role in keeping essential infrastructure operational.
Unlike military formations, TeNo specialised in engineering and technical support. Consequently, its membership badges remain highly collectable today because they represent one of Germany’s specialist technical organisations.
This example remains in very good original condition.
Original TeNo Membership Badges have become increasingly difficult to find. Collectors value them because they represent an important technical organisation rather than a conventional military unit.
In addition, numbered examples by Wilhelm Föhner enjoy an excellent reputation for quality and originality. This badge combines historical importance, documented manufacture and exceptional presentation. Therefore, it makes an excellent addition to any advanced collection of Third Reich civil organisation insignia, German enamel badges or Technical Emergency Service memorabilia.
