This Original NSDAP Political Leader breast eagle is an outstanding example of hand-crafted Third Reich bullion embroidery. Produced in gilt and silver bullion wire on a black wool backing, the insignia represents the exceptional quality reserved for senior National Socialist political uniforms during the pre-war and wartime years.
The eagle displays broad outstretched wings executed in heavy gilt bullion, while the inner feathers retain contrasting silver bullion embroidery that adds depth and definition. The central eagle, together with the suspended oakleaf wreath enclosing the swastika, has been entirely hand embroidered using traditional couching techniques. Consequently, the insignia exhibits the rich three-dimensional appearance expected from high-grade political uniform insignia.
Furthermore, the reverse retains its original linen foundation, complete with extensive hand couching stitches that secure every section of bullion wire. An original workshop inspection mark, applied in ink, remains visible on the backing and further supports the period manufacture of this impressive example.
The NSDAP Political Leader breast eagle formed part of the official insignia worn by political leaders of the National Socialist German Workers’ Party. Unlike standard military eagles, these examples were individually hand embroidered using gilt bullion and were reserved for higher-ranking officials serving within the Party hierarchy.
Each insignia required many hours of skilled handwork. Therefore, surviving original examples remain highly sought after by collectors of political uniforms and advanced Third Reich insignia.
This example features:
The insignia remains in excellent original condition. The bullion retains an attractive mellow gilt finish, while the embroidery remains secure throughout. The reverse displays honest age and original hand stitching consistent with authentic wartime manufacture.
Original hand-embroidered political bullion insignia represent some of the finest textile workmanship produced in Germany during the 1930s and 1940s. Because many were destroyed after 1945, genuine surviving examples have become increasingly scarce.
Consequently, this insignia represents an excellent opportunity for collectors of original political uniforms, bullion insignia, and advanced German militaria.
