This exceptional Original SS-Totenkopfverbände Standarte “Thüringen” BeVo Flatwoven Cuff Title is one of the finest surviving examples of this historically significant SS unit insignia. Woven by Bandfabrik Ewald Vorsteher (BeVo), Wuppertal, it retains its original woven RZM/SS manufacturer’s label, bearing the desirable 19/37 production code.
Unlike the more frequently encountered worn examples, this cuff title remains in virtually mint, issued condition, preserving crisp flatwoven Gothic lettering, original silver-grey woven borders, untouched folded ends and an immaculate reverse construction.
The survival of its original woven RZM label substantially enhances both its rarity and research importance.
The 3. SS-Totenkopfstandarte “Thüringen” was officially organised during 1937 following the establishment of Buchenwald Concentration Camp near Weimar.
The SS-Totenkopfverbände were separate from the SS-Verfügungstruppe and were responsible for guarding and administering concentration camps. Under SS-Gruppenführer Theodor Eicke, the guard formations were reorganised into several Totenkopfstandarten, including:
Personnel wearing this cuff title served with the Thüringen Standarte before many members became the nucleus of the SS-Totenkopf-Division after mobilisation in late 1939.
