Original Waffen-SS Reinhard Heydrich BeVo Flatwire Cuff Title

This exceptional Original Waffen-SS “Reinhard Heydrich” BeVo Flatwire Cuff Title is one of the finest surviving examples of this late-war Waffen-SS regimental insignia. Manufactured by Bandfabrik Ewald Vorsteher (BeVo), Wuppertal, using the Form 2 flatwire weaving process, the cuff title retains its original RZM/SS paper issue label, factory-finished ends and full original length.

Purchased from Helmut Weitze Militaria, this example remains in mint, virtually unissued condition, exhibiting superb weave definition, untouched construction and outstanding preservation. Surviving examples retaining both their original RZM label and full factory length are considerably scarcer than standard worn cuff titles encountered on the collectors’ market.

Historical Background

The cuff title “Reinhard Heydrich” was introduced during 1942 following the death of SS-Obergruppenführer Reinhard Heydrich, who died on 4 June 1942 after injuries sustained during Operation Anthropoid in Prague.

The title was authorised for SS-Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 11 “Reinhard Heydrich”, a regiment of the 6. SS-Gebirgs-Division “Nord”. Members wore the cuff title on the lower left sleeve of the Waffen-SS field blouse as a permanent regimental distinction.

BeVo Flatwire Manufacture

Unlike ordinary machine-embroidered cuff titles, this example was produced using BeVo Form 2 flatwire weaving, one of the highest-quality wartime production methods.

Specialist references recognise two principal flatwire constructions:

  • Form 1, with a salt-and-pepper reverse.
  • Form 2, with an all-black reverse protected by a separate backing strip sewn behind the lettering.

Your cuff title is clearly the Form 2 variant.

This construction employs extremely fine aluminium flatwire laid into the weave, producing:

  • sharply defined lettering;
  • perfectly parallel horizontal ribs;
  • crisp edge definition;
  • exceptional durability;
  • a refined metallic appearance without raised embroidery.

Construction Analysis

Flatwire Lettering

High-magnification examination demonstrates:

  • genuine aluminium flatwire;
  • perfectly parallel woven ribs;
  • consistent thread spacing;
  • sharp terminals;
  • no embroidered satin stitch;
  • no evidence of modern computer weaving.

The lettering exhibits the precise horizontal ribbing expected from original BeVo flatwire manufacture.

Borders

The silver-grey woven borders remain completely original.

They retain:

  • factory width;
  • original woven construction;
  • perfect symmetry;
  • untouched folded ends;
  • no later trimming.

Reverse Construction

The reverse is especially significant.

It retains:

  • the characteristic all-black reverse;
  • original protective reinforcement strip;
  • original factory stitching;
  • untouched folded ends;
  • correct Form 2 BeVo construction.

This reverse configuration is entirely consistent with recognised Form 2 flatwire cuff titles.

Original RZM/SS Paper Label

The surviving RZM issue label is a major feature.

It retains:

  • RZM roundel;
  • SS runes;
  • manufacturer code A4;
  • inspection number;
  • original cream paper;
  • factory attachment.

Labels of this type were commonly removed before the cuff title was sewn onto the uniform. Their survival substantially enhances authenticity and collector desirability.

Authentication Assessment

The cuff title displays every major characteristic expected of an original BeVo Form 2 flatwire example.

Positive observations include:

  • original BeVo Form 2 flatwire construction;
  • authentic aluminium woven lettering;
  • original silver-grey borders;
  • untouched reverse reinforcement strip;
  • original RZM paper label;
  • factory-finished ends;
  • mint weave condition;
  • no evidence of restoration;
  • no synthetic fibres visible.

Nothing observed raises concern regarding originality.

Condition

This example is exceptional.

It remains:

  • full length;
  • virtually unissued;
  • retaining complete factory finish;
  • retaining the original RZM label;
  • free from repairs;
  • free from moth damage;
  • displaying only negligible storage ageing.

Examples preserved at this level are uncommon.

Comparative Market Analysis

Recent specialist sales demonstrate the strength of the market.

Documented comparisons include:

These results indicate that untouched full-length BeVo examples with factory labels remain among the most desirable Waffen-SS cuff titles.
