Exceptional unissued NSDAP Kreisleitung armband, 1939–1945 Political Leader Candidate pattern, retaining its original white district-level piping and RZM paper control label. The label is clearly marked Hersteller A4/91 with control number A Nr. 184358. Remaining open at both ends and apparently never fitted to a uniform, this remarkably preserved example represents an outstanding piece of original NSDAP political uniform insignia.

This NSDAP Kreisleitung armband is an exceptionally well-preserved, apparently unissued example of the Political Leader insignia introduced under the revised NSDAP uniform system from 1939. Its combination of white edge piping, multi-piece central emblem, untouched full-length construction and surviving RZM label makes it considerably more desirable than a typical uniform-removed example.
Rich red cloth forms the main body. Narrow white piping follows both long edges and identifies the administrative level as Kreisleitung, or district leadership, under the post-1939 system. Period uniform charts show white piping associated with Kreis-level Political Leader insignia.
At the centre sits a separately applied cream-white circular field. A separately constructed black ribbed swastika has then been carefully positioned over the roundel. Consequently, the emblem shows the multi-piece construction associated with better quality Political Leader insignia rather than a simple printed design.
The restrained design is important. Unlike senior Political Leader armbands, this example carries no broad gold oak-leaf rank bands, metal rank devices or additional decorative bullion.
Its configuration corresponds with the Politischer Leiter-Anwärter, or Political Leader Candidate, pattern. Specialist insignia references record Political Leader Candidate armbands at several administrative levels. The white piping places this example specifically within the Kreisleitung level.
A closely related Sonderbeauftragter version existed. However, that pattern incorporated an additional yellow border around the central white field and swastika. This armband lacks that feature, supporting its identification as the Political Leader Candidate form.
One of the strongest features of this NSDAP Kreisleitung armband is its surviving Reichszeugmeisterei paper label.
The label reads:

A large printed “C” also appears on the label.
The manufacturer number A4/91 is attributed in surviving specialist reference material to M. Auer, München. Other documented period insignia carrying this licence number associate A4/91 with M. Auer of Munich.
Importantly, the label remains naturally aged rather than artificially distressed. Its paper has developed appropriate toning while the printed blue-grey RZM graphics and black control numbers remain remarkably clear.
Condition separates this example from many surviving Political Leader armbands.
Both short ends remain open and unjoined. Therefore, there is no evidence that the band was ever permanently formed into the circular configuration required for fitting to a uniform sleeve.
The reverse reveals long folded edges with neat period machine stitching. Circular stitching behind the central white disc corresponds precisely with the applied emblem on the front.
Furthermore, the red cloth retains exceptional depth of colour. White piping shows only mild natural age toning, while the central field remains extremely clean.
Taken together, these features strongly support describing the piece as:
Unissued / never fitted to a uniform.
Comparable surviving Political Leader armbands are documented with open, unsewn construction, including RZM-labelled Kreisleitung examples.
Several features visible in the photographs support period manufacture.
The central black emblem displays a fine ribbed textile structure. Likewise, the cream-white disc shows the tight woven surface expected from period rayon-type material.
Machine stitching remains consistent throughout the reverse. Moreover, the white edge piping appears integral to the original construction rather than being added later.
The RZM label provides an additional and particularly valuable authentication feature. Although an RZM label alone can never prove authenticity, the typography, layout, manufacturer code, control numbering, paper ageing and method of attachment appear compatible with the remainder of the armband.
No obvious modern construction feature is visible in the supplied photographs.
Photographic assessment: strong indications of an original period-manufactured example.
Final authentication should always combine physical examination, magnification, fibre assessment and UV inspection rather than relying on photographs alone.
The NSDAP developed a rigid territorial hierarchy that included Ortsgruppe, Kreis, Gau and Reich levels. Political uniforms and insignia helped make that hierarchy immediately visible.
Under the later system, white piping identified the Kreisleitung, representing the Party’s district administrative structure.
Political Leader insignia must be understood within the wider history of the Nazi dictatorship. The NSDAP developed into a centrally controlled, racist and antisemitic political organisation and became the sole legal political party after the destruction of Germany’s democratic system.
Today, surviving insignia such as this armband has value as material evidence of that political organisation, its uniform regulations and its system of visual hierarchy.

The armband remains exceptionally clean and retains rich original colour. No significant moth damage, staining or material loss is visible in the supplied photographs.
Both ends remain open. Accordingly, the piece appears never to have been fitted to a uniform.
Most importantly, the original RZM A4/91 paper label and A Nr. 184358 control number remain intact and readily legible.
Minor ageing to the label, piping and exposed edges is entirely consistent with an approximately 80-year-old textile object.
Finding a post-1939 NSDAP Kreisleitung armband in this state of preservation is considerably more difficult than locating a worn or uniform-removed example.
