More about the product
Original TeNo Officer Parade Belt – F.W. Assmann & Söhne
This rare
TeNo Officer parade belt is an original Third Reich
Feldbinde für Offiziere for the
Technische Nothilfe (TeNo), complete with its matching silvered aluminium officer buckle and silver brocade belt. The buckle displays the distinctive TeNo officer design and retains the stylised
“A” maker mark for F.W. Assmann & Söhne of Lüdenscheid on the reverse. The belt itself is woven from silver metallic thread with the characteristic
dark-blue longitudinal stripes, while the reverse is backed in dark felt and fitted with its original brown leather adjustment section.A directly comparable Assmann-made example is currently being offered by Ratisbon’s in its 71st Contemporary History Auction, where it is described as extremely rare in excellent condition and carries a
€2,600 starting price before 24.5% buyer’s premium.

The
TeNo Officer parade belt was intended for formal and parade wear by officers and leaders of the Technische Nothilfe.Unlike ordinary service belts, the officer version used elaborate metallic brocade together with a decorative oval buckle. The surviving combination of buckle, brocade and leather fittings makes this a complete example rather than a loose buckle assembled to a later belt.
F.W. Assmann & Söhne Manufacturer
The reverse of the buckle carries the characteristic stylised
“A” mark associated with
F.W. Assmann & Söhne, Lüdenscheid.Ratisbon’s documents multiple original TeNo officer parade belts by Assmann. One current example is specifically listed as an aluminium TeNo officer buckle with an Assmann maker mark and matching silver-thread brocade belt.
https://www.ratisbons.comAn earlier Ratisbon’s example was likewise maker marked
“A” for Assmann, dated
40, and marked
DRGM. That belt retained its original brocade and sold in September 2023 for €900 hammer / €1,105 including premium.
https://www.ratisbons.comYour buckle’s rear construction and Assmann mark are therefore entirely consistent with documented period examples.
Aluminium TeNo Officer Buckle
The buckle is manufactured from silvered aluminium and displays the highly distinctive TeNo officer pattern. The obverse features a detailed national eagle above the central Technische Nothilfe emblem, surrounded by a decorative wreath. The relief remains sharp, especially across the eagle, radiating background and surrounding foliage. The silvered finish shows only modest age-related wear, while natural toning is visible within the deeper recesses. This is a particularly attractive buckle and presents considerably better than many surviving examples that have been heavily polished or worn.
Silver Brocade Belt
The belt is woven from silver-coloured metallic thread. Two dark-blue stripes run longitudinally through the weave and form one of the key identifying features of the TeNo officer
Feldbinde.Ratisbon’s current Assmann example is described in precisely this way: a matching belt woven from
silver thread with the typical dark-blue stripes, with felt backing to the reverse.
https://www.ratisbons.comThe metallic weave on your example remains strong and visually impressive.
Dark-Blue Stripes
The dark stripes are important because they distinguish the TeNo belt from visually similar parade belts used by other German organisations.Under certain lighting they can appear almost black, but their intended colour is dark blue. That colour combination, together with the buckle design, supports the identification as a Technische Nothilfe officer belt.
Leather Adjustment Section
The interior retains its original brown leather adjustment section. The leather remains flexible enough to show the original perforations and fitting arrangement, although age-related surface wear is naturally present. The leather component appears original to the belt and displays compatible ageing with the brocade and buckle.
Rear Buckle Construction
The reverse shows the complete clasp and attachment system.A broad metal tongue secures the buckle to the belt, while the outer circular backplate follows the contours of the obverse design. The
Assmann maker mark remains visible on the reverse fitting.I would leave the reverse exactly as it is and avoid any cleaning or polishing, because the surviving patina and maker mark are valuable authentication evidence.
Technische Nothilfe
The Technische Nothilfe was established in 1919 as a technical emergency organisation and later became integrated into the Third Reich’s state and police structure. Its personnel performed technical, infrastructure and emergency tasks.TeNo uniforms and insignia had their own distinctive identity, and officer parade equipment was produced to a high standard. The silver-and-dark-blue parade belt is one of the organisation’s more visually recognisable officer accessories.
Condition
This
TeNo Officer parade belt remains in very good original collector condition. The aluminium buckle retains excellent detail and strong silvered appearance. The silver brocade remains bright overall, while the dark-blue stripes remain well defined. The dark felt backing shows normal age-related wear. The leather adjustment section remains present and complete.Only light surface wear and minor age toning are visible across the metal fittings. The overall appearance is considerably stronger than many surviving parade belts.
Authentication Assessment
The belt displays a strong combination of period characteristics:
- correct TeNo officer buckle design
- silvered aluminium construction
- stylised A maker mark for Assmann
- correct silver metallic brocade
- characteristic dark-blue stripes
- original dark felt backing
- original brown leather adjustment section
- period-style fastening hardware
- consistent ageing across metal, textile and leather
The closest current market comparison is Ratisbon’s 71st Auction example, which is also Assmann-made and uses the same silver-thread belt with typical dark-blue stripes. Ratisbon’s describes that example as
very rare in excellent condition.
