NSKOV Membership Badge – Deschler & Sohn RZM M1/52

This NSKOV membership badge carries the RZM M1/52 manufacturer’s marking associated with Deschler & Sohn of Munich. Its oval design combines an oak-leaf wreath, an upright sword and a central cross bearing a circular swastika motif. The silver-coloured finish shows surface wear and darker toning.

Design and construction

The sword extends above the wreath, while its grip forms the lower point of the badge. Within the oval border, open sections separate the central design from the surrounding oak leaves. These openings give the badge its distinctive pierced appearance. In addition, the raised sword, wreath and central emblem create contrasting levels across the front. Brighter areas remain on several high points, while darker patches occupy parts of the blade and surrounding detail. The reverse carries a vertical wire pin assembly with a curled retaining catch. Both the circular RZM logo and the manufacturer’s code remain visible beside the fastening. The photographs show the arrangement of these markings and the shape of the rear fittings.

Deschler manufacture and historical context

Deschler & Sohn was a Munich manufacturer of badges and decorations. The firm’s RZM code M1/52 provides the maker identification on this example. This is a manufacturer’s designation rather than an individual membership number.NSKOV stands for Nationalsozialistische Kriegsopferversorgung, commonly translated as National Socialist War Victims’ Care. The organisation formed part of the Nazi Party’s network of affiliated bodies and concerned itself with war-disabled veterans and other war victims. This NSKOV membership badge represented organisational affiliation. Its design incorporated military imagery, but it was not a combat decoration. For an independent reference, see the Deschler NSKOV badge in the Paris Musées collection. That museum record documents the same combination of sword, cross, oak-leaf wreath and RZM manufacturer’s marking.

NSKOV membership badge condition

The badge displays rubbing, surface marks and uneven retention of its silver-coloured finish. However, the main design remains recognisable, and the reverse markings remain legible. The pin assembly and retaining catch are present. Please examine both photographs for the condition of the blade, wreath and rear fastening. These views also show the darker surface toning and the wear to raised details.Explore our political and organisational badges or browse the wider military medals collection for related items.
