Featuring eight pages of specially commissioned full-colour artwork alongside carefully selected historical photographs, the book provides an in-depth look at the personalities, uniforms, insignia, weapons, and personal equipment of one of Germany’s most renowned military units.
Originally formed as an elite guard detachment, Grossdeutschland expanded to regimental strength in 1939 and fought in many of the war’s most significant campaigns. The unit saw action in France in 1940, Yugoslavia in 1941, and later participated in the invasion of the Soviet Union. Reinforced to divisional status, Grossdeutschland became one of the Wehrmacht’s premier combat formations, fighting in major Eastern Front battles including Rzhev, Kharkov, and Kursk.
The book follows the evolution of the division into a Panzergrenadier force and later the expansion into Panzerkorps Grossdeutschland, including the involvement of Panzergrenadier-Division Brandenburg and the Führerbegleit-Brigade during the Ardennes campaign and the final stages of the war.
Packed with historical detail and visual reference material, this volume is an essential resource for military historians, collectors, modellers, reenactors, and enthusiasts of German World War II militaria.
