Luftwaffe generals

This comprehensive reference book profiles 115 Luftwaffe generals who were awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross or one of its higher grades during the Second World War. It combines detailed biographies, military careers, and award histories into a single authoritative volume, making it an invaluable resource for historians, researchers, and collectors of German military history.

If you are building a specialist library, this title complements our Luftwaffe Reference Books, Knight’s Cross Reference Books, and German Awards Books, providing valuable background information alongside works covering decorations, uniforms, and senior commanders.

The book features many of the Luftwaffe’s most influential officers. Included are legendary fighter aces Adolf Galland and Werner Mölders, senior commanders Albert Kesselring, airborne leaders Kurt Student and Eugen Meindl, and Field Marshals Erhard Milch, Wolfram von Richthofen, Robert Ritter von Greim, Hugo Sperrle, and Hermann Göring.

Each biography explores the officer’s military career, command appointments, operational service, promotions, and decorations. Consequently, the volume provides both historical context and a reliable reference for identifying Germany’s highest-ranking Knight’s Cross recipients.

Collectors researching Luftwaffe history may also find our Wehrmacht Reference Books, Third Reich Aviation Books, and German Military Biography Books useful companion volumes.

For additional historical research, readers can compare the information with the records held by the Bundesarchiv (https://www.bundesarchiv.de), the Imperial War Museums (https://www.iwm.org.uk), the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org), and the Lexikon der Wehrmacht (https://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de).
