The reverse retains its original RZM J-Stück label marked A4/343 and A Nr. 154954. Remarkably, this exact control number is documented in a 2025 Ratisbon’s auction record, providing an unusually strong historical market reference.

This NSDAP Ortsgruppenleiter armband is an outstanding example of the elaborate Political Leader insignia introduced under the revised NSDAP uniform regulations from 1939.
Manufactured from fine-quality red wool, the armband displays the elaborate construction reserved for the Ortsgruppenleiter, or Local Group Leader. Light-blue piping along the outer borders immediately identifies the Ortsgruppe administrative level.
Unlike the simple membership armband, this high-ranking example incorporates woven gold-coloured oak leaves, additional gold braid and a gilt political rank device. Consequently, its construction clearly reflects the position held by the Ortsgruppenleiter within the local Party hierarchy.
The overall preservation is exceptionally attractive. Strong original colours, clean textile surfaces and a complete RZM paper label combine to make this an important reference-quality example.
A major revision of NSDAP Political Leader uniforms and insignia took place during 1938–39. The resulting system used different colours and decorative features to identify administrative levels and appointments.

Therefore, the distinctive light-blue piping on this armband confirms its association with the Ortsgruppenleitung.
Within the Party’s territorial structure, the Ortsgruppe formed the local branch. An Ortsgruppenleiter headed that organisation and operated beneath the corresponding Kreisleitung.

The quality of this NSDAP Ortsgruppenleiter armband becomes particularly apparent under close examination.
Its body consists of rich red wool cloth. Narrow light-blue rayon piping follows both outer edges, while fine gold-coloured braid provides an additional decorative border.
A broad machine-woven oak-leaf band runs through the centre. Repeating gold-coloured oak leaves appear against the red ground and are framed by narrow parallel gold stripes.
At the centre sits a separately applied cream-white ribbed rayon roundel. Fine gold cord neatly borders its circumference.
A multi-piece black ribbed rayon swastika lies above the white field. Rather than being printed, each arm has been individually formed and sewn. Gold cord then follows the complete outline.
Such construction required significantly more labour than a standard Party armband.
Mounted at the centre of the black swastika is the characteristic gilt political rank device.
The ornament takes the form of a small gilt starburst or rosette containing the miniature Party eagle-and-swastika motif. Its two-prong fastening remains visible from the reverse.
This central device is particularly important because it distinguishes the Ortsgruppenleiter armband from visually similar administrative Political Leader patterns.
Together, the central rank pip, oak-leaf decoration and blue piping establish the correct identification.
A particularly valuable feature is the surviving Reichszeugmeisterei paper control label.

The large J identifies the label classification commonly described by collectors as a J-Stück RZM label.

Cramer von Clausbruch produced various RZM-controlled textile items and insignia. Surviving period armbands carrying the same A4/343 identification provide useful comparative evidence.
The label on this example displays natural paper ageing, period typography and appropriate printing characteristics. Furthermore, its control number provides a remarkable connection to an earlier documented auction appearance.
An exceptionally important feature of this armband is its identifiable market history.
Ratisbon’s offered an NSDAP Ortsgruppenleiter armband as lot 80-1703 in its 64th Contemporary History Auction, which concluded in May 2025.
That catalogue description records:

These numbers exactly correspond with the original label surviving on the present armband.
Ratisbon’s also described the piece as a heavy red wool Ortsgruppenleiter armband with gold-woven oak-leaf decoration, double gold braid, blue piping and the central gilt star with eagle.

Because both the individual control number 154954 and manufacturer number 343 correspond precisely, the auction record provides compelling evidence that the present armband is the same documented example.
This traceable reference considerably strengthens its catalogue history.
Turning the piece over reveals details hidden during normal display.
The circular stitching securing the white roundel remains clearly visible. Stitch lines also follow the individual arms of the swastika.
At its centre, the original metal fastening prongs from the Ortsgruppenleiter rank device can be examined directly.
A transverse joining seam confirms that the armband has been sewn into its finished wearable form.
Accordingly, this should not be described as an unissued open-ended example. Instead, it represents a completed period armband that appears to have seen only limited use.
The surviving RZM label remains remarkably complete despite this finished construction.
Several characteristics support period manufacture.
Firstly, the red wool exhibits the expected woven structure and natural nap. Secondly, the ribbed rayon used for both the white roundel and black swastika corresponds closely with documented Political Leader insignia.
Gold-coloured woven oak leaves show the correct directional pattern and fine detail. Likewise, the blue Ortsgruppe piping is integrated naturally into the edge construction.
Machine stitching visible on the reverse corresponds accurately with the individual components seen from the front.
Perhaps most significantly, the original RZM label carries A4/343 and control number 154954, while the identical number appears in the archived Ratisbon’s description of this exact pattern.
From the photographs supplied, the construction and components are entirely consistent with an original period-manufactured example.
Overall condition: Excellent / Museum-standard collector condition.
The red wool retains particularly strong colour and presents extremely well.
Gold-coloured decoration remains bright, while the oak-leaf pattern is sharply defined. Light-blue piping is complete and visually strong.
The central cream-white field remains clean for its age. Black rayon retains excellent definition, and the gilt rank device remains securely mounted.
Some minor age and service-related evidence should be expected on an original textile of this period. Nevertheless, no serious damage detracts from the overall appearance.
Of particular significance, the RZM J-Stück label remains substantially intact and completely identifiable.
The Ortsgruppenleiter occupied an important position within the territorial administration of the NSDAP.
An Ortsgruppe represented the Party’s local organisation within a town, district or urban neighbourhood. Its leader formed part of the wider chain running upward through Kreis, Gau and Reich authorities.
These officials did considerably more than organise Party meetings. During the dictatorship, local Party organisations increasingly participated in propaganda, surveillance, mobilisation and enforcement of National Socialist policies.
Consequently, surviving Political Leader uniforms and insignia provide material evidence for understanding the administrative structure through which the Nazi dictatorship operated.
