This Original SS-Oberführer Collar Tab is a rare pre-1942 example of senior Waffen-SS insignia. It features beautifully hand-embroidered silver bullion oak leaves on a black velvet backing and retains its original RZM paper control label. As a result, it represents an exceptional museum-quality piece for collectors of original German militaria.
Because few officers achieved the rank of SS-Oberführer, authentic examples are rarely encountered. Furthermore, surviving tabs with their original factory labels are considerably scarcer than standard officer insignia.
This SS-Oberführer Collar Tab demonstrates the outstanding craftsmanship associated with privately tailored Waffen-SS uniforms.
Two finely embroidered silver bullion oak leaves dominate the design. Each leaf shows crisp detail and excellent depth, while the raised embroidery creates a striking three-dimensional appearance.
In addition, the original twisted silver bullion border frames the black velvet backing perfectly. The bullion remains bright, and the velvet retains its rich colour and texture. Consequently, the collar tab displays exceptionally well.
The reverse retains its original Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) paper control label, an increasingly rare feature that significantly enhances originality and collectability.
The label includes:
Many original paper labels disappeared during wartime service or post-war handling. Therefore, surviving labelled examples command a substantial premium among advanced collectors.
The SS-Oberführer Collar Tab was worn before the 1942 insignia revisions by officers holding the rank of SS-Oberführer, one of the highest field-grade ranks within the Waffen-SS command structure.
The distinctive double silver oak leaf pattern immediately identified the wearer as a senior officer. Unlike lower-ranking insignia, these collar tabs required extensive hand embroidery using silver bullion wire and were manufactured only by approved RZM contractors.
Because relatively few officers reached the rank of SS-Oberführer, original collar tabs remain among the rarest surviving examples of Waffen-SS cloth insignia.
This SS-Oberführer Collar Tab remains in outstanding original condition.
The bullion retains excellent detail with only light age-related wear. Moreover, the velvet remains clean and well preserved. Overall, this is an exceptional collector-grade example.
Collectors value the SS-Oberführer Collar Tab because of its rarity, craftsmanship and historical significance.
