This outstanding Original SS-Verfügungstruppe Regiment “Deutschland” BeVo Flatwoven Cuff Title is one of the finest surviving examples of this historically important insignia. Manufactured by Bandfabrik Ewald Vorsteher (BeVo), Wuppertal, and retaining its original RZM issue paper label, the cuff title remains in issued yet virtually immaculate condition, making it a true museum-quality reference specimen.
Purchased from Helmut Weitze Militaria, this example exhibits every characteristic expected of an authentic wartime BeVo-produced cuff title, including the distinctive flatwoven Gothic script, silver-grey woven borders, original folded factory ends, BeVo reverse construction and an intact RZM “B” paper issue label bearing manufacturer code A4 and inspection number A Nr. 170480. Comparable examples are rarely encountered with their original labels still attached, as most were removed when the cuff title was sewn onto the uniform.
From both a historical and collecting perspective, this cuff title represents one of the defining insignia of the early armed SS formations that evolved into the Waffen-SS.
The SS-Standarte “Deutschland” was formed in Munich during 1934 as one of the original three regiments of the SS-Verfügungstruppe (SS-VT), alongside Germania and the Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler. Unlike the part-time Allgemeine-SS, these formations were permanently barracked, professionally trained military units intended to serve as the armed component of the SS under Heinrich Himmler.
Following the campaigns in Austria, Czechoslovakia and Poland, the regiment became one of the principal formations from which the Waffen-SS expanded. In October 1939, it formed the core of the SS-Verfügungs-Division, later redesignated the 2. SS-Panzer-Division “Das Reich”.
The cuff title “Deutschland” identified members of the regiment and became one of the earliest and most prestigious Waffen-SS unit titles. It was worn on the lower left sleeve of the service tunic and remained a symbol of regimental identity throughout the regiment’s early combat service.
