This original TeNo membership stick pin is an exceptionally attractive early example of the official insignia of the Technische Nothilfe (Technical Emergency Service). Manufactured in silvered metal with high-quality translucent enamel, the badge features the distinctive TeNo “TN” monogram within a cogwheel, superimposed over a black enamel swastika against a rich translucent red background.
Unlike the more commonly encountered later examples, this badge is individually numbered 236 on the reverse and carries the desirable GES. GESCH. (Gesetzlich Geschützt) legal protection mark. These features indicate early production and significantly enhance its collector appeal.
The badge displays the classic Technische Nothilfe emblem.
A finely detailed silver cogwheel surrounds the intertwined T and N monogram, symbolising Germany’s technical emergency organisation. Behind the cogwheel sits a black enamel swastika with translucent ruby-red enamel visible between the arms. A polished silver border completes the design, producing excellent visual contrast.
This early TeNo membership stick pin is die-struck from quality silvered alloy before being finished with finely applied vitreous enamel.
The reverse retains its original long stick pin and is stamped:
GES. GESCH.
together with the low serial number:
236
Low-numbered TeNo stick pins are encountered considerably less often than standard unnumbered examples.
Founded in 1919, the Technische Nothilfe (TeNo) initially provided emergency engineering and utility services following strikes and civil unrest. During the Third Reich, the organisation expanded dramatically and became responsible for maintaining vital infrastructure, including electricity, gas, water supplies and communications after bombing raids and other emergencies.
Members wore official badges to denote their affiliation, while numbered early examples such as this represent some of the earliest period issues produced after the organisation’s incorporation into the National Socialist state.
This badge remains in excellent original condition.
The black enamel retains a deep glossy finish, while the translucent red enamel remains vibrant with only minimal age-related wear. The silver finish displays an attractive untouched patina, and the original stick pin remains perfectly straight and secure. The reverse exhibits natural age toning consistent with genuine wartime manufacture.

One point worth mentioning is that the “236” is unusually low. If this is an issue number rather than a manufacturer’s assembly number—as seen on some early TeNo insignia—it would make the badge exceptionally desirable. Early, low-numbered TeNo membership badges are scarce and are often sought after by advanced collectors. If further provenance or a maker attribution can be established, a value approaching £400 would not be unrealistic.
