An exceptional original Third Reich SS-Brigadeführer bullion collar tab (Kragenspiegel). This impressive insignia denoted the rank of SS-Brigadeführer, one of the senior general officer grades within the Schutzstaffel (SS). Original hand-embroidered general officer collar tabs remain among the most desirable pieces of SS insignia because they were produced in limited numbers and reserved exclusively for high-ranking officers.

This superb example displays outstanding bullion embroidery and retains its original construction throughout. Consequently, it represents an outstanding addition to any advanced collection of Third Reich uniform insignia.
The collar tab is manufactured on the correct black velvet backing and is surrounded by the proper silver twisted bullion cord reserved for SS generals. Hand-embroidered silver bullion oak leaves dominate the design, while a single bullion rank pip identifies the wearer as an SS-Brigadeführer.
The reverse retains its original buckram stiffener and black rayon backing. Furthermore, the original hand stitching remains intact, confirming period construction. The quality of the bullion embroidery reflects the exceptional workmanship associated with private military tailors who supplied senior SS officers.
The rank of SS-Brigadeführer was introduced in the early years of the SS and became one of the organisation’s principal general officer grades. Officers holding this rank commanded SS brigades, police formations and, later in the war, Waffen-SS divisions and higher headquarters.
Only a relatively small number of officers achieved the rank of SS-Brigadeführer. Consequently, insignia produced for these senior commanders was manufactured in far smaller quantities than standard officer collar tabs. Many surviving examples remained attached to uniforms or were lost during the final stages of the war, making original bullion examples increasingly difficult to obtain.
Collectors regard original SS general officer collar tabs as some of the finest examples of German wartime embroidery. Furthermore, hand-embroidered bullion examples command significantly greater interest than machine-produced insignia.
This example combines excellent preservation, crisp bullion work and completely original construction. Therefore, it represents a museum-quality piece suitable for the most advanced collections of SS insignia or high-ranking German uniforms.
The collar tab remains in excellent original condition. The silver bullion embroidery retains outstanding definition and attractive period toning. The twisted bullion border remains complete, while the reverse preserves its original buckram reinforcement, rayon backing and period stitching. Overall, this is a scarce, collector-grade example with exceptional display appeal.
