More about the product

An original Second World War German Silver Wound Badge (Verwundetenabzeichen in Silber), awarded to German military personnel wounded three or four times in combat, or for suffering particularly serious injuries while serving the German armed forces. The Silver Grade was instituted alongside the Black and Gold classes on 1 September 1939.

This example is of the desirable solid-back construction, manufactured from tombak with a silvered finish. The obverse displays the iconic wartime design of a German steel helmet bearing the swastika, superimposed over crossed swords and enclosed within an oak leaf wreath.

The reverse is clearly maker marked “65”, identifying production by Klein & Quenzer A.G., Idar-Oberstein, one of the best-known wartime manufacturers of German military awards. The badge retains its original hinge, pin and catch assembly, all of which remain intact and fully functional.

The original silver finish has mellowed over time, leaving an attractive aged patina that highlights the crisp detailing of the die work. A genuine, untouched wartime example from a respected maker, making it an excellent addition to any German militaria or award collection.

Condition

The badge remains in very good original condition with clear detail throughout and an attractive naturally aged silver finish. The reverse retains the original hinge, pin and catch assembly, all of which are secure and fully functional. The maker mark “65” is clearly stamped to the reverse. Overall, a well-preserved wartime example showing honest age and handling.
