This elegant officer’s cap represents one of the most prestigious forms of headgear worn by senior Luftwaffe generals during the Second World War.
Constructed in high-quality white cotton drill over a lightweight summer body, the cap retains its original gold bullion embroidered Luftwaffe eagle and matching wreath with national cockade, both displaying excellent detail and attractive age patina. The black mohair center band contrasts beautifully with the white crown and is framed by fine gold piping, denoting General officer rank.
Fitted with the correct double gold bullion General’s chin cords, secured by pebbled gilt side buttons, the visor remains in excellent condition with an attractive gloss finish. The cap exhibits the elegant high-front profile associated with premium wartime private-purchase examples.
Inside, the cap retains its original silk lining bearing the gold manufacturer’s logo:
Original Scherenberg
Stirndruckfrei (pressure-free forehead design)
Sonderklasse
These markings are associated with Scherenberg’s higher-grade private purchase caps, reflecting the exceptional quality expected by senior Luftwaffe officers. The sweat shield remains intact,
The cap displays honest age and light service wear consistent with an original wartime example. The white cover shows minor soiling and age staining, as expected, while the insignia, bullion chin cords, visor and overall structure remain exceptionally well preserved. The interior markings are clear and legible, and the cap retains an attractive display profile.
Luftwaffe General’s visor caps rank among the most desirable items of German military headgear. Summer white examples were produced in significantly smaller numbers than standard field-grey or blue-grey service caps and were intended primarily for wear during warmer months, ceremonial occasions, and service in southern Europe.
The combination of a premium private-purchase manufacturer, high-quality bullion insignia, original removable white cover, and attractive untouched condition makes this a particularly desirable example for the advanced collector of Luftwaffe headgear.
Condition: Very good original condition with light age-related wear and minor staining to the white cover. A highly attractive and well-preserved wartime Luftwaffe General’s summer visor cap.
