More about the product

The front displays crisp detail throughout. Intertwined oak leaves and acorns surround the moulded date 1939. In German tradition, the oak leaf symbolised strength, loyalty, endurance and honour. Consequently, designers frequently used this motif on youth awards, commemorative badges and official insignia.

Unlike standard political membership badges, this example carries no organisational emblem. Instead, its design suggests a commemorative or event badge rather than a membership insignia. The unusual arrow shape may symbolise progress, achievement and leadership. Therefore, collectors often associate similar designs with German youth organisations, Reich schools, educational institutions or regional patriotic events. Although no reference has yet confirmed the exact organisation, the badge remains an authentic and scarce period piece.

The reverse retains its original pin, hinge and catch. It also features the mould mark “M 9/6”, which most likely identifies the production mould rather than an official RZM licence. Furthermore, the Bakelite construction reflects Germany’s increasing efforts to conserve strategic metals before the Second World War.

Condition

This badge remains in excellent original condition. The moulded detail remains sharp, while the original gilt finish shows an attractive period patina. In addition, the pin assembly functions correctly, and the badge displays only light age-related wear.

Historical Significance

Original 1939 German Bakelite badges continue to attract collectors because of their distinctive construction and limited survival. Their links with youth movements, educational organisations and commemorative events add further historical interest. Moreover, the uncommon arrow design and traditional oak leaf motif make this example especially desirable. It would make an excellent addition to any collection of Third Reich memorabilia, German youth insignia, Bakelite badges or WWII German collectibles.
