A rare and highly desirable original Hitler-Jugend Ehrenzeichen für Verdiente Ausländer (Hitler Youth Badge for Distinguished Foreigners), manufactured by the prestigious Munich firm Deschler & Sohn, one of the foremost producers of Third Reich political decorations.
Instituted in 1941, this special decoration was awarded to carefully selected foreign nationals who had rendered distinguished service to the Hitler Youth organisation or who had made significant contributions to fostering international youth relations with National Socialist Germany. Unlike the standard Hitler Youth membership badge, this award was never intended for general issue and was bestowed only in limited numbers upon foreign youth leaders, officials and dignitaries.
The badge features the beautifully detailed gilt national eagle with outstretched wings resting upon an oak leaf spray, superimposed over the iconic red, white and black enamel Hitler Youth diamond. The central white enamel field is surrounded by a rich brown enamel ring bearing the inscription “Hitler Jugend.” The multi-piece construction, vibrant fired enamel and fine gilt finish are characteristic of Deschler’s exceptional quality.
The reverse retains its original horizontal pin, hinge and catch assembly and is crisply stamped DESCHLER & SOHNabove MÜNCHEN 9, confirming manufacture by one of Germany’s most respected wartime makers. The badge measures approximately 49 mm in height, consistent with documented original examples, and retains an untouched patina with no evidence of repair or restoration.
The enamel remains exceptionally well preserved with only minor age-related wear, while the gilt finish has mellowed attractively over time. The original pin functions correctly, and all three retaining rivets remain tight and undisturbed.
Original examples of this decoration are seldom encountered on today’s market, particularly those by Deschler & Sohn in such well-preserved condition. Its rarity, quality of manufacture and historical significance make it an outstanding addition to any advanced collection of Third Reich political awards and insignia.
