An original Second World War German Heer 18-Year Long Service Medal (Wehrmacht-Dienstauszeichnung 2. Klasse für 18 Jahre treue Dienste), awarded to members of the German Army (Heer) in recognition of 18 years of loyal and faithful military service.
The Wehrmacht Long Service Awards were instituted on 16 March 1936, replacing the Imperial long service decorations and recognising career servicemen of the Heer, Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe. The 18-Year Award was the second class of the series and was worn suspended from the distinctive blue ribbon.
This example is manufactured in silvered metal and retains its original blue ribbon. The obverse features the national eagle clutching a wreath enclosing the swastika, while the reverse displays the large numeral “18”, denoting the recipient’s years of service.
The medal displays an attractive naturally aged silver finish with honest wear from age and service. The ribbon remains in very good condition with strong colour and only light signs of handling.
A genuine wartime Wehrmacht long service decoration that would make an excellent addition to any German militaria or medal collection.
The medal remains in very good original condition with crisp detailing and an attractive naturally aged silver finish. The original blue ribbon is present and remains clean with good colour, displaying only light signs of age and handling. Overall, it is a well-preserved wartime example.
